In one of the most recent and much talked about cases documented, doctors discovered that tumor-like growths spreading through a man’s body were not made from human cancer cells at all.
Instead, they originated from parasitic tapeworm cells.
The patient was a 41 year old man living with advanced HIV/AIDS. Because his immune terrain was severely compromised, doctors misdiagnosed he had aggressive metastatic cancer after tumors appeared throughout his lungs, liver, adrenal glands, and lymph nodes.
Scans and biopsies strongly suggested widespread malignancy. The masses behaved like cancer. They invaded tissues, spread rapidly, and appeared deadly. Fortunately the pathologists examined the tissue more closely, they discovered something completely unexpected.
The cells were not human.
