Ocular Parasites: When Worms Invade the Human Eye

The idea of a parasite living in the human eye is unsettling, yet it is a real and documented medical phenomenon. Although rare, ocular parasitic infections do occur and can have serious consequences if not recognised and treated early.

How Do Parasites Reach the Eye?
Parasites do not typically enter the eye directly. Instead, they reach it through the bloodstream or surrounding tissues after entering the body through: Contaminated food or water; Insect bites; Contact with infected animals or soil; Poor hygiene or environmental exposure.
