Niclosamide is a trusted anthelmintic medication that has been safely used for decades to treat intestinal parasite infections, especially tapeworms. What makes this drug fascinating is that it has recently been studied as a repurposed treatment for certain cancers, showing promise far beyond its original role.
How Niclosamide Works
Niclosamide interferes with the energy metabolism of parasites. It uncouples oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria, effectively cutting off the parasite’s ability to produce energy. This leads to paralysis and eventual death of the parasite, which the body then expels naturally.
