In fact, billions of people worldwide are estimated to carry one or more parasitic organisms at some point in their lives.
A parasite is an organism that lives on or within another organism, known as the host. The parasite depends on the host for nutrients and survival, often at the host's expense. Human parasites range from microscopic protozoa to larger worms that can inhabit the digestive tract, tissues, blood, and other organs.
