A Ground breaking Insight: Gut Health, Immunity, and Autism Risk Begin Before Birth:
A recent study published in The Journal of Immunology sheds light on something many of us in integrative medicine have long suspected: a mother’s gut microbiome may significantly influence her child’s risk of developing autism. This research used animal models to show how imbalances in the mother's microbiota can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders in off-spring, due in part to immune responses driven by cytokines like interleukin-17a (IL-17a).
