Both Sides of the Medical Financial Wheel

There is a comforting illusion many people hold about healthcare. That somewhere, on one side or the other, there exists a “pure” system. One that is free from bias, untouched by money, and guided solely by truth. But the reality is far less tidy. Whether you look at pharmaceutical medicine or the booming holistic industry, both sit on the same financial wheel, and both are capable of drifting away from real science into something far more persuasive and far less rigorous.
The uncomfortable truth is this: no side is innocent.
On one end, pharmaceutical medicine presents itself as the gold standard of evidence based care. It operates within structured frameworks of clinical trials, regulatory oversight, and standardized dosing. But it is also deeply embedded in a multi billion dollar industry where profit, patents, and market share shape priorities. Research can be influenced by funding sources. Outcomes can be selectively emphasized. And “marketing science” often slips into the space where unbiased inquiry should stand.
On the other end, the holistic and alternative health world positions itself as a corrective. Natural, ancient, intuitive, and often distrustful of conventional systems. It appeals to those who feel unheard or failed by mainstream medicine. But here too, the same financial dynamics quietly operate. Supplements, detox protocols, herbal blends, and wellness programs are sold with bold claims that are not always backed by rigorous evidence. Influencers become authorities. Anecdotes become proof. And again, marketing can overshadow method.
Different language. Same problem.
